Damp Proofing: Rising Damp
Most building materials have the capacity to absorb moisture. A wall built in contact with the ground, can cause it to become wet. The most obvious signs that you have a rising damp problem are brown staining on the wall, peeling wallpaper and plaster that feels damp and cold to the touch.
To rectify the problem, we will remove the skirting timbers and all of the contaminated wall plaster to the recommended heights and inject a thixotropic silane/siloxane damp proofing( cream) into the base of the wall to create a new damp proof course. To complete the system the walls are then re-plastered and the joinery treated with a preservative and re-fixed, ready for decorating.
Damp Proofing: Condensation Control
A common cause of dampness in buildings is condensation, which can lead to the appearance of mould growth and chesty coughs.
Condensation problems can be controlled by balancing a constant temperature with ventilation, we can fit Condensation Control Unit, Pacifyer Vents, Extractor Fans or a Humidistat depending on the extent of the condensation problem.
Timber Treatment: Wood Worm & Beetle
There are a few insects, mainly beetles, which feed on wood - some of which can cause serious damage to building timbers.
We will identifying the species involved, whether the infestation is still active and if any timbers need replacing. All of these factors will influence the type of treatment carried out (if any).
Timber Treatment: Dry & Wet Rot
There are 3 categories of wood rotting fungi, brown rots, white rots (both known as wet rot) and the true dry rot fungus which is by far the most serious.
We will identify the type of rot present and treat accordingly.
Wall Tie Replacement & Crack Stitching
Cavity walls consist of two walls, tied together with a special wall tie. In the 1980s it was found that these ties corrode and fail more quickly than was expected. This has resulted in many buildings having cracking and bulging walls.
Using specialist products and techniques, we can replace the wall ties and rectify any cracking.
