Cellar Conversions top of the 2010 predictions

Basement conversions are one of the top home improvement trends tipped for 2010, according to a January 2010 prediction.

Also highlighted in the research by 'Ratedpeople' were energy efficiency measures, including green additions such as solar panels, and a focus on green products such as low emission paints.

While there will undoubtedly be people looking to improve their home by undertaking DIY, there are some projects best left to professionals.

“Home owners must be aware that shoddy work will probably have a negative effect on value unless you're lucky, so if you're unsure of your ability, get a recommended professional to do the work for you,” warned Andrew Skipwith of 'Ratedpeople'.

Among the larger scale works predicted to take homeowners' attention are ways of creating additional space without moving house, including loft conversions and basement conversions.
